Take a swing
Our championship level Golf Course is a big draw for fans of the sport. What better on a summer’s day than a round of golf in the sunshine, overlooking the spectacular Irish coastline? The Jameson Golf Links first opened almost 30 years ago, although the Jameson family had a nine-hole course as far back as the 1850s. In the last three decades it has played host to both professional and amateur events and has seen everyone from Rory McIlroy and Severiano Ballesteros to Sean Connery and Michael Douglas tee off. The 18-hole course covers 203 acres and uses its spectacular positioning and natural terrain to make a course that will keep golfers of all levels interested and challenged.
Idyllic Location
Portmarnock beach isn’t called the ‘Velvet Strand’ for nothing. This beautiful, blue-flag awarded sandy beach is spectacular to visit all year round – but when better to head to the beach than in the summer? Step off our golf course, on to the dunes, and from there on to the silky smooth sands which stretch for 5km. Bliss! The beach is ideal for walking, taking a dip in the sea, shell collecting or maybe even some paddle-boarding. Or alternatively, lay down a towel and get out your favourite book for a moment of quiet calm with the sounds of the sea as your backdrop. A lifeguard is usually on duty during the summer months. Take a walk to the nearby seaside town of Malahide, with its 12th century castle and bustling marina. The coastal path is suitable for families and buggies and boasts some gorgeous views. Or enjoy the amenities of the pretty village of Portmarnock, with local shops, cafes and pubs to enjoy too. Make sure you have a peek at the North end of the beach for an eye-catching sculpture which explains a little bit more about its connection to aviation history. Let’s just say, with sands so smooth, it makes an excellent runway…
Close to Dublin
If you fancy heading to the bright lights of the city, you’ll find it’s an easy journey from Portmarnock Resort via car or bus. Once you arrive in Dublin, so much awaits you – here are our top picks: Take a trip to the famous Grafton Street to watch the entertainers and do a spot of shopping Visit to the four centuries old, world-renowned Trinity College Stroll round St Stephen’s Green or Phoenix Park – where you can also hire a bike. Keep watch for the resident fallow deer! The city’s spectacular and informative museums are well worth a visit, such as Kilmainham Gaol, where you can experience what life would have been like as a prisoner in centuries gone by. The GPO gives a fascinating insight into modern Irish history, and the National Irish Museum looks at arts, history and archaeology. If art is your thing, the Irish Museum of Modern Art could be right up your street and the Museum of Literature Ireland is a must for any book-lovers. Sporting fans can take a tour of Croke Park, home to the Gaelic Games. If you’re a fan of ‘the black stuff’ no visit would be complete without a trip to The Guinness Storehouse, to find out more about its history. In a neat link with the Portmarnock Resort you can also visit the site of the original Jameson Distillery, which offers tours, tastings and masterclasses. Portmarnock Resort was once the family home of the Jameson family, and their name remains today on our famous golf course. If good food is your thing you’ll be spoilt for choice, with Michelin-starred restaurants, top quality seafood, multicultural delights or hearty pub fayre aplenty. The hop-on, hop-off bus tour is a great way to see the major sights, and you can purchase a ticket for one to three days.

No summer hotel break would be complete without excellent food and drink to tempt the tastebuds. Enjoy breakfast or dinner in the impressive 1780 Restaurant, named after the year the Jameson Dynasty began to make its famous Irish Whiskey. Take Afternoon Tea in the breathtaking Seaview Restaurant. As the name suggests, you can watch the changing landscape of the sea through panoramic bay windows as you tuck into delectable treats created by our master chefs. Of course, given the Resort’s heritage, it is only fitting that there is the Jameson Bar, where you can enjoy a tipple of the famous Irish Whiskey. Hearty lunches and dinners are served, and there’s also the opportunity to try the Jameson Experience, which includes a tour of the original Jameson family home and grounds, a three course meal and a Whiskey tasting. If you’re looking to relax with a drink, why not head to our An Sibin Pub, which brings back memories of traditional Irish Pubs. (It’s pronounced Shebeen). Cosy and welcoming, it’s a great place to reconnect with family and friends – or even make some new ones.
