Our History
The story of Portmarnock Resort is deeply connected to one of Ireland's most iconic families — the Jamesons.
The estate's history dates back to 1847, when John Jameson III, grandson of the founder of the famous Jameson Distillery, established St. Marnock's House on this spectacular stretch of coastline.
Over the decades, the estate welcomed prominent figures from Irish society and maintained close connections with the British Royal Family, who visited the property in the early 20th century.
In the 1850s, the Jameson family established a private golf course on the estate — a course now recognised as one of the earliest known golf layouts in Ireland.
Today, that legacy lives on throughout the resort. The original estate remains at the heart of the property, while the surrounding linksland has evolved into a world-class golf destination.
